The Canada Media Fund (CMF) fosters, develops, finances and promotes the production of Canadian content and applications for all audiovisual media platforms. The CMF receives financial contributions from the Government of Canada and Canada’s cable, satellite and IPTV distributors.
Message from the Chair
"Over many years, a clear consensus has developed that a creative, innovative and commercially vibrant screen industry is of immense value to Canadians. Stories depicted on all screens shape and reflect Canada’s contemporary national identities, contribute to Canadians’ understanding of our history and help share our values with the rest of the world. The tangible economic value of the industry is also significant."
Message from the President and CEO
"The CMF’s vision for Canada’s talent and stories to transcend platforms and borders, triggering innovation, ideas, and building on Canada’s reputation as a leader in the support of multiplatform content is the foundation upon which we deliver the CMF’s programs. Inspired by ongoing efforts to improve representation in the screen-based sector, we took a number of important measures in 2017-2018 to advance gender balance and Indigenous representation in Canada’s audiovisual industry."
The CMF managed 63 partnerships across Canada and in key international markets to support stakeholder relations, stimulate coproduction, share industry research, and promote Canadian audiovisual content.
CMF-funded content continues to connect with audiences, both at home and abroad, and to garner industry-wide recognition at major awards ceremonies.
